Sjoerd Buisman

Sjoerd Buisman (1948) is a well known Dutch sculptor who is fascinated with nature; He studies their form and often controls its form and development. Many works have been executed in the landscape, these growing works of art have made Sjoerd Buisman a phenomenon on it’s own. Beside long term landscaping projects, Sjoerd Buisman also works in a variety of materials in his studio.
Since the eighties, the work of Sjoerd Buisman is focused around Phylotaxis, which studies the arrangement of leaves around a branch or branches.These spiral movements have been executed by Sjoerd Buisman in bronze, wood and stone and form the heart of his inspiration to renew again and again.
More recent, his ‘Ourobos’ sculptures also refer to the principal movement of the spiral.
The work of Sjoerd Buisman can be found in Numerous public and private collections and museums.
